Fleet management is an administrative process where a company organizes, tracks and coordinates work vehicles (forklifts, burden carriers and mobile elevated work platforms) with the goal of lowering operating costs, increasing uptime and scheduling routine maintenance and large scale fixes to equipment. 

Fleet management operates where several work functions come together to improve work equipment’s lifespan, efficiency and usage. These functions are telematics, vehicle service and maintenance, operator safety and financing. A newer technology that is growing in usage for measuring fleet management is called telemetry. 

Telemetry is the automated collection and storage of historical data within a cloud or server for monitoring. In material handling this means forklifts are connected through WiFi or Cellular Data to a real time measuring system. Reporting such as, meter usage, impact detection, fault codes, GPS location, total cost of operations and maintenance records is provided through telemetry.
